Who am I?
My name is Rob Turner, but in Cornwall I am Known as "BURT". D.O.B. 01/01/66
I originate from Tamworth in the "land locked Midlands." I have been surfing for 19 years and still get a buzz and a lot of enjoyment out of it. Because of the amount of travelling involved in order to surf I decided, 5 years ago to move to Cornwall. "What a move." I am employed at Fluid Juice Surfboards, by Adrian Phillips who has been shaping surfboards for over 20 years. My main job is the finishing of the boards, but under the tuition of Adrian I have also been shaping for
5 years. I have a background in Design Implimentation, Joinery and pattern making. I am well travelled having visited Morocco, The Canaries, Barbados and Costa Rica. The job that I am doing is a joy to do and has so much job satisfaction. I have never regreted my move down here and the local surfers are great to be with. I hope that you enjoy browsing my website and like what you see. |

Quatrain Drive and how it works.
Well if you look it up you will see that it means four lines, hence, Quatrain Drive is a four line drive. basically it is a far more efficient way of using channels. Traditionally channels have been of a clinker style and have an inherent problem in that they create turbulence as the water flow passes along the bottom of the board, it is travelling at an angle and not nose to tail. The water hits the 90' hard edges of the wall creating turbulence which gives the board a loose feeling. Unfortunately Turbulence=Drag=Loss of speed. To get these to work well you need to pump and work the board.
Quatrain Drive significantly reduces the turbulence problem by smoothing out the water flow and re-directing a percentage of water off the back of the board creating extra foreward drive and better grip. Quatrain Drive can be put into all board bottom shapes at the end stage of shaping.
Due to the shape of the channels, Truster set-ups have to have a glass-on centre fin, usually smaller than the side fins to keep the board loose. I have developed this type of drive over the years by riding the boards myself and feeling and enjoying the difference. So why don't you treat your self and give it a try..
